George Ledford Waller, Jr. Obituary

George Ledford Waller, Jr., affectionately known as George, passed away on December 17, 2023, at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama. Born on April 21, 1949, in Opelika, George's journey through life was marked by kindness, friendliness, and thoughtfulness, traits that endeared him to all who knew him.

George's legacy is one of love and commitment, particularly to his family. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 44 years, Donna Waller, and their children, George L. Waller, III (Rachael), Melanie Norgard, Tracy Bennett (Terrance), and Jeremy Waller. His role as a grandfather to Ashley, Courtney, Hayden, Dylan, Bryson, and Garrett was one he embraced with joy and pride. George is also survived by his sister, Barbara Blankenship, and niece, Carrie Blankenship, along with a circle of friends and acquaintances who will miss him dearly, including his cherished friend, Chris Kidder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edra Mae Fincher Waller and George L. Waller, Sr.; and his daughter, Annette Waller.

For over three decades, George was a familiar face at Tom's Foods, where his customers lovingly knew him as the "Peanut Man." His dedication to his work and the people he served was evident in the way he conducted himself, always with a smile and a kind word for everyone.

Upon retirement, George's entrepreneurial spirit led him to open Cusseta Produce in his yard, quickly earning him the new title of the "Watermelon Man." His friendly and outgoing personality shone through as he interacted with customers, turning a simple purchase into a warm exchange between friends. George's love for the outdoors was more than a hobby; it was a way of life that he shared generously with his community.

George's commitment to his hometown was further demonstrated through his service as a member of the Cusseta Town Council. His thoughtful approach to community issues and his willingness to lend a hand wherever needed made him a respected figure in local governance.

As we say farewell to George Ledford Waller, Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to family and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his influence will continue to be felt in the town he so dearly loved. George's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but the stories of the "Peanut Man" and the "Watermelon Man" will continue to be told, bringing smiles to faces just as he always did.
