Joe R. "Buddy" Cofield, a cherished pillar of the Beulah community, passed away peacefully at his residence in Beulah, Alabama, on December 27, 2023, at the age of 77. Born on February 2, 1946, in Valley, Alabama, Buddy was a beacon of wisdom and experience to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Buddy is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Cofield, and his devoted children, Christy Abernathy (Jason), Angie Craft (Lee), David Cauley (Meagan), and Dylan Cauley. His legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren, Ryan Bond (Olivia), Payton Still (Cam), Carlee Craft, Shelby Craft, Brie Craft, Ansley Moon (Dalton), and Michael Abernathy (Kelsey), as well as his cherished great-grandchildren, Luke Gullatt, Lilly Gullatt, Parker Abernathy, and Gracie Abernathy. He also leaves behind his sister, Martha Marie Hulburt (Wayne), his niece, Julie King, and his special friends, the Dubose family. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Joe R. Cofield, Sr. and Evelyn Cofield, and his first wife, Judy Cofield.

Buddy was a man of exceptional intelligence, generosity, and wisdom. His presence was a comfort and his counsel sought after by many. Known affectionately as "Bozo" by his grandchildren, he was not only a family man but also a mentor and a grandfather figure to numerous young men in the community. His influence and guidance have left an indelible mark on countless lives.

 A lifelong member of the Beulah community, Buddy never met a stranger. His friendly demeanor and genuine interest in others earned him the affectionate title of the "Mayor of Beulah" in his younger years. His commitment to his neighbors and friends was unwavering, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.

Buddy's faith was a cornerstone of his life. As a lifelong member of Beulah Baptist Church, he served his congregation with love and dedication. His faith was evident in his actions and his unwavering support for his church and community. Buddy's love for his community was matched only by his love for his family, and he took great joy in every moment spent with them.

 As we say goodbye to Joe R. "Buddy" Cofield, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, service, and the kind of wisdom that only a life dedicated to others can cultivate. Buddy's memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and his spirit will forever be a part of the fabric of the Beulah community he so dearly loved.

Funeral services for Buddy will be held on Sunday, December 31st, 2023, at 2:00 PM (EST) at Beulah Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Beulah Cemetery. Pastors Mitchell Smith, Jim Dykes, and Rusty Letson will officiate. Buddy’s family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM (EST) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
