Kathy Lynn Widner, affectionately known as Kathy to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024, at the age of 64. Born on July 27, 1939, in Langdale, Alabama, Kathy was full of love and joy throughout her life, touching the hearts of all who knew her. She departed from this world in Opelika, Alabama.


Kathy's life was one of devotion and laughter, marked by her enduring love for her husband of 48 years, James Widner. Together, they built a life filled with cherished memories and shared dreams. Kathy's spirit lives on through her daughter, Christy Widner, and her beloved grandchildren, Jamie Widner, Justin Mims, and Brandon Chatman (Haley). Her siblings, Libby Guy, Ann Heard (James), Sue Crenshaw, and O'Neal Yates (Connie), along with a host of nieces and nephews, will forever hold Kathy in their hearts. Her canine companions, Peanut, Boss, Max, J.W., and Pogo, were her constant and faithful friends, providing joy and comfort throughout her life.

Kathy was preceded in departure by her son, Michael Widner, and her parents, Evelyn and Everett Yates. Her family takes solace in knowing that she has been reunited with them in eternal peace.

A woman of many interests, Kathy found pleasure in the simple joys of life. She was an avid fan of computer games and social media, connecting with friends and family through the digital world. Her love for poetry reflected her deep appreciation for the beauty of language and emotion. Kathy's passion for Alabama football was well-known, and she could often be found cheering on her favorite team with unbridled enthusiasm. Music was another of Kathy's loves, and she enjoyed most genres, finding a song for every moment and mood.  

Above all, Kathy was a family-oriented lady, whose presence was a comforting and loving constant in the lives of her family. She was a beautiful soul with a beautiful heart, and her selfless nature was evident in every act of kindness she bestowed upon others. Kathy's sense of humor was infectious, and her laughter was a melody that will echo in the memories of those who loved her.

Her and James attended Concord Methodist Church in LaGrange before moving to West Side Baptist Church in Lanett, Alabama. 

In the words of Helen Keller, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Kathy's loving spirit has indeed become an indelible part of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and selflessness—a true testament to the life she lived and the hearts she touched.

As we bid farewell to Kathy Lynn Widner, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a life rich with love and laughter. She will be profoundly missed, but the light she brought into this world will continue to shine in the lives of her family and friends. Kathy's journey on earth has ended, but her story will be told for generations to come, as an inspiration and a blessing to all.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. EST at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley with interment in Johnson Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Chuck Anderson officiating. Her family will be receiving friends Monday evening from 5:00 P.M. EST until 7:00 P.M. EST.

Mrs. Radean Walls Poole, 59 of Daviston, AL passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at her residence. Public Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 2:00PM CST until 6:00 PM CST at Silmon-Seroyer Funeral Home Chapel, Lafayette, AL. Mrs. Poole will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, 1:00 PM CST at Leander Baptist Church, Daviston, AL. Pastor James Whetstone, Officiating. Interment will follow funeral service in church cemetery. She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving and devoted husband of 36 years, Eric Poole of Daviston, AL; a loving daughter, Felicia Poole of Roanoke, AL; two granddaughters, Zaniya and Malayah Hendricks of Roanoke, AL; two sisters, Doris Meadows of Daviston, AL and Katherine Walls of Roanoke, AL; three nieces, three nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, in-laws, and other relatives.
