James R. "Big Jim" Hull, Sr. Obituary




James R. "Big Jim" Hull, Sr., a man whose presence was as grand as his nickname, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024, in LaGrange, Georgia. Born in a humble home in Troup County, Georgia, on January 16, 1936, Jim's life was a testament to the power of kindness, humor, and dedication to family.

Jim's life was rich with love and laughter, shared with his children Karol Frack (Mike), James R. Hull, Jr., Ralph E. "Eddie" Hull (Jenny), and Kevin L. Hull (Cherie). His legacy continued to grow with his grandchildren Lindsey Perkins (Mitch), Dylan Frack (Destiny), Hunter Hull (Patrice), Dakota Frack (Andrea), Noah Hull, Victoria Jacobson (Mitch), Meghan Childress (Chris), Karoline Turner (Ben), Allesandra Hull ("Haz" Wright), and Maia Hull, as well as fourteen great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. His life was further enriched by his special friend, Agnes Brown, his sister, Ann Jarrell, his brother, Ronnie Hull (Linda), and brother-in-law, Frank Hess (Marge), sister-in-law, Joyce Aldrich, along with a host of nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice Marie Hull, his parents, Pearce and Viola Hull, his daughter and son-in-law, Kristie and Brent Koch, and his siblings, Jacqueline "Peggy" Hastings (Dick), Ralph Hull, Eddie E. "Pete" Hull, James "Buster" Barclay, Mary "Tillie" Gagne, baby Jean Hull, and Charles Duvall; brother-in-law, Benjamin “Ben” Jarrell.

 A faithful member of Davidson Baptist Church, Jim's larger-than-life personality was a beacon of light for the congregation. His smile was infectious, and his sense of humor was a source of constant joy for those around him. Jim was the kind of man who never met a stranger, and his friendly, kind, and thoughtful nature made him beloved by many.

 Throughout his life, Jim was deeply committed to his immediate and extended family. He was the patriarch who led with a gentle strength and unwavering support. His love for his family was paralleled only by his passion for the outdoors, where he found great pleasure in hunting with his boys. Jim also had an affinity for classic cars and hot rods, a hobby that reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship and the thrill of the ride.

 As we remember Jim, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by generosity, laughter, and an abundance of love. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his stories will be told for generations to come. James R. "Big Jim" Hull, Sr. was a man who truly made the world a better place simply by being in it.Funeral services for Jim will be held on Wednesday, May 29th, 2024, at 11:00 AM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Standing Rock Methodist Church Cemetery. Pastor Ben Turner will officiate. Jim’s family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM (EDT) until the service hour at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley.
