Raymond "Ray" Lamar Murphy, Sr.


Raymond Lamar “Ray” Murphy Sr. passed away on May 26, 2024, at his home in Beulah, Alabama. He was 86 years old.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Helen “Darlin” Murphy, his parents, Raymond and Annie Lee Murphy, brother, Jim Murphy, sister, Betty McConnell, daughter, Debra Martin, Son-in-law, Eddie Martin and great grandson, Edan Templeton. He is survived by his children, Lamar (Cindy) Murphy, Gale Moody, Travis (Teresa) Murphy, Diane Martin, Linda (Billy) Evert, John (Misty) Martin, 31 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 10 great, great grandchildren.

Ray was a native of Beulah, Alabama since his birth on November 22, 1937. He worked most of his life in the logging business and ran the sawmill in Beulah for 20 yrs. He had many friends in the community.

He retired at the age of 85. He loved western movies, working and tinkering on tractors or anything with a motor. He met his wife in 1978 and they married on Valentine’s Day in 1979. He and Darlin loved to travel. They traveled by RV to 48 of the 50 states. He loved his family, and he loved the Lord. He attended Pine Grove Church and loved to watch David Jeremiah.

Funeral services for Ray will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 11:00 AM (EDT) at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. Pastor Ricky Thomaston will officiate. Visitation for Ray will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (EDT).
