Joy Prestwood Belcher Obituary

We come together today to celebrate the life of Joy Prestwood Belcher, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away peacefully at her residence in Lanett, Alabama, on June 10, 2024. Born on April 11, 1961, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Joy's life was a tapestry of love, creativity, and intellectual pursuit.

Joy is survived by her devoted husband of 28 years, Bob Belcher; her cherished children, Angel Belcher Wallace, Jacob T. Belcher and his wife Chrissie, and Jamie Leming Waldrop; her adored grandchildren, Trey, Jake, Levi, Aubrey, Elizabeth, and Charlie; and her loving sister, Barbara Prestwood King. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and James Prestwood, and her brother, John Mark Prestwood.

Joy's passion for life was evident in her many interests and talents. A true foodie at heart, she was renowned for her exquisite cakes, which brought joy and sweetness to many gatherings. Her culinary skills were just one facet of her creative spirit. Joy's intelligence and thoughtfulness shone through in her love of history and literature. She was an avid reader, always eager to explore the depths of the past and the complexities of the human experience.

Joy’s love of nature was profound, and she found great solace and inspiration in hiking. Her travels often led her to the mountains, a place where she felt most at peace and invigorated and at home.

Those who knew Joy will remember her for her vibrant flower garden, a testament to her love for beauty and growth. She tended to her flowers with the same care and attention that she devoted to every aspect of her life. Joy's garden was not just a collection of plants, but a reflection of her soul—colorful, alive, and always reaching for the sun.

The words that best describe Joy are intelligent, thoughtful, and creative. She approached every challenge with a sharp mind and a gentle heart. Her creativity was not confined to her hobbies; it was woven into the fabric of her everyday interactions, bringing light and originality to even the most mundane moments.

As we say goodbye to Joy Prestwood Belcher, we take comfort in knowing that her impact on the world will continue to be felt through the lives of those she touched. Her memory will live on in the stories shared, the recipes passed down, and the beauty of the natural world that she so cherished. Joy's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but her spirit remains with us, guiding us like a beacon of light and warmth. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
