Obituary For Ruben J. Burdette




Ruben J. Burdette, 70 of Lanett, Alabama passed away June 6, 2024 at Bethany House Hospice in Auburn, Alabama.


Born in West Point, Georgia, Ruben was the son of Emma Jewel and Edwin Otis Burdette, Jr.


He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Crystal Melody Burdette and brother Thomas Ellis Burdette. Ruben leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Janet Hinkle Burdette, his son Lance Burdette (Nicole) of Reeltown, Alabama, and sister Ellen Williams (Coleman) of Valley, Alabama.


Ruben worked for the City of West Point Light Department from 1975 to 2004. He continued to work for various utility companies for several years afterwards. While working for the City of West Point, Ruben served as a volunteer for the West Point Fire Department.


Ruben was active in the community throughout his life. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and later served as a Boy Scout leader. He coached several youth sports teams in which his children participated. After retirement Ruben enjoyed gardening, traveling, and watching his grandchildren play sports.
He had a lifelong love for all dogs. Ruben enjoyed caring for his canine friend, Maggie, along with the neighbor’s dogs, too.

Ruben loved his family unconditionally. He was a follower of Jesus Christ and a member of Lanett Congregational Christian Church.


Visitation will be on Monday, June 10th, at 10:00 AM EST at Lanett Congregational Christian Church with a memorial service to follow. Pastor Mark McCarty will be officiating.


Valley-Point Funeral Home in Lanett, Alabama is assisting the family with the arrangements.
