Susan A. Hudson Obituary




Susan A. Hudson passed away on August 6, 2024, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama. Born on June 27, 1942, in Chambers County, Alabama, Susan was a cherished soul who lived a life brimming with dedication and love.

Susan's educational journey was marked by an unwavering passion for learning and excellence. A proud graduate of Southern Union, she continued her studies at Berea College in Kentucky and went on to earn her master's degree from Auburn University. Her academic pursuits nearly culminated in a Doctorate degree from Auburn, where she lacked only four hours of completion.

 Professionally, Susan was synonymous with commitment. For nearly three decades, she served the Lanett City School System, retiring as their Federal Programs Administrator. Her contributions were a testament to her dedication to education and her belief in making a difference.

Susan was a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church in Union Hill, Alabama. She lived her beliefs and brought light and love to those around her, serving as an inspiration through her actions and interactions.

 Susan's penchant for genealogy and reading illustrated her deep appreciation for history and storytelling. She found joy in piecing together stories of the past, much like the intricate puzzles and crossword puzzles she delighted in solving. Her love for engaging with current events kept her tuned into Fox News regularly.

 Susan's immediate family, who brought her immense pride and happiness, survives her. She was the beloved wife of Jimmy J. Hudson, and a nurturing mother to Sharon L. Henderson (Tim) and Jason B. Hudson. Her love also extended to her nieces and nephews, Todd Looser (Dianne), Hope Walker (Donnie), and Jody Looser, and their families. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Bryan M. and Ivis R. Looser, and brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy D. Looser (Kay).

Susan's legacy is that of a life wonderfully lived and a series of immeasurable impacts made on those she touched. Her memory will continue to be cherished and celebrated by all who had the honor of knowing her.

 Funeral services for Susan will be held on Friday, August 9th, 2014, at 11:00 AM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. A private family graveside will follow in Harmony Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Chris Roberts will officiate. Susan’s family will receive friends Friday morning from 10:00 AM (EDT) until the service hour at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

Bonnie Calhoun Williams, a member of the Scripps Hall of Fame for Journalism Excellence, died August 23, 2024. She was 73. Born in Langdale, AL, she was the daughter of Samuel J. and Annie Jo Kent Calhoun and the granddaughter of Dr. Samuel J. and Ada Louise Bryan Calhoun. Bonnie graduated from Valley High School and LaGrange (GA) College. After a brief career in banking in Atlanta, where she met lifelong friends, Bonnie returned to Langdale and became the Lifestyles Editor for the Valley Times-News. Bonnie’s newspaper career took her to the Managing Editor’s job at the Dalton (GA) Daily Citizen News and Pagination Coordinator with the Rome News Tribune and its community newspapers.
